Distribution of Certificate of Recognition to Sanchar Mitras, from Karnataka LSA Department of Telecommunications

Department of Telecommunicators, Karnataka LSA held a press meet on 8th April 2025 for recognizing the efforts of Sanchar Mitras for raising awareness on cyber frauds and various citizen centric initiatives under taken by dept to help citizens report such fraudulent communications and secure their mobile phones.
Special DG telecom of Karnataka LSA, Shri Akhilesh Kumar Gupta in a special function held, distributed Certificates of Recognition to Sanchar Mitras. He highlighted that in view of rising cases of Cyber Crimes and telecom frauds seen in recent past, Department of Telecommunications has undertaken many initiatives for citizens to know and protect their mobile communication resources from Cyber Scams, Financial fraud, Identity Thefts etc.

Department of Telecommunications has launched Sanchar Saathi portal (https://Sanchasaathi.gov.in), a citizen friendly (App) application, which includes following modules:
Chakshu- for reporting incidences of suspected fraud communications received on mobile phones.
Know Your Mobile Connections – to know how many connections are working in your name.
Block your lost/stolen mobile handset- to enable citizen report stolen/lost mobile no for tracing and recovery of mobile phones.
RICWIN -for reporting incoming international calls received with an Indian number.
Sanchar Saathi App is also available as a Mobile App and can be downloaded from Apple Store or Google Store.
Sanchar Saathi App has been very effective in empowering citizens to know various types of malicious and fraud communications and how to report such communications. Reporting of fraud communications by citizens in Sanchar Saathi has helped Department in taking timely actions for disconnections of large no of fraudulent connections.

Sanchar Mitras were selected from premier Engineering Institutes in the State to popularize Sanchar Saathi App. These Sanchar Mitras have undertaken many awareness programs on Sanchar Saathi at public places in and around their college campus, nearby Schools, NSS Camps and also in remote villages. Sanchar Mitras also dispels many myths on tower radiations and health hazards as DoT has mandated very stringent norms for radiation for TSPs and radiations are well within the norms.
In recognitions of their excellent works for popularizing various citizen centric undertaken by Department of Telecommunications, under the Union Ministry of Communication, Karnataka LSA distributed “Certificate of Recognition” on 8th April 2025, to recognize the hard work done by the Sanchar Mitras.

Shri Akhilesh Kumar Gupta, the Special DGT, Karnataka LSA also said that “Due to Sanchar Saathi app more than 30000 lost Mobile phones were recovered in Karnataka and which is highest among other States”. Further, he informed that, DoT has awarded 100 5G use case labs in educational institutions in 28 states and 4 UTs. In that, 8 colleges are from Karnataka. DoT, has enrolled Sanchar Mitras (Engineering Students) from these institutes and they were given adequate training and toolkits which help them to create awareness on Sanchar Saathi portal and Sanchar Saathi App, Reporting of Cyber Frauds, Reporting of Fraud communications/spams, reporting of international numbers received with Indian numbers in public places.
