MEPZ SEZ Tambaram and EFI inaugurate the restoration of Thiruneermalai lake and Kadaperi lake

The Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Tambaram, in collaboration with the Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI), has launched restoration projects for Thiruneermalai Lake and Kadaperi Lake. Funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions from MEPZ-based industries, these initiatives aim to rejuvenate vital water bodies in the region.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Hon’ble Minister Thiru. T. M. Anbarasan, Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of Tamil Nadu; Thiru. S. Arunraj, IAS, District Collector, Chengalpattu; Thiru. S. Balachander, IAS, Commissioner, Tambaram City Municipal Corporation; Thirumathi K. Vasanthakumari, Mayor, Tambaram City Municipal Corporation; Thiru. G. Kamaraj, Deputy Mayor, Tambaram City Municipal Corporation; and Thiru. I. Karunanithi, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Pallavaram Constituency.

Thiru. Alex Paul Menon, IAS, Development Commissioner, MEPZ SEZ, stated, “MEPZ SEZ is committed to fostering sustainable development that benefits both industry and the environment. The restoration of Thiruneermalai Lake and Kadaperi Lake exemplifies our dedication to ecological balance and community well-being.”

Thiru. Arun Krishnamurthy, Founder of EFI, added, “Restoring these water bodies is not just about environmental conservation; it's about reviving the lifelines of our communities. Through collective action, we aim to bring back the ecological and cultural significance of these lakes.”

The restoration efforts focus on enhancing biodiversity, improving groundwater recharge, and providing sustainable recreational spaces for the community, reflecting a model of public-private partnership in environmental sustainability.
