The Government of India has launched the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN), a time-bound initiative to empower Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) by ensuring comprehensive service delivery and infrastructure development in their villages. In Manipur, the Maram tribe, the state’s only PVTG, resides in 26 villages across Tadubi, Lairouching, Willong, and Senapati sub-divisional areas of Senapati District.

The PM JANMAN initiative is progressively delivering impactful interventions to the Maram tribe, focusing on infrastructure, housing, road connectivity, water supply (Jal Jeevan Mission), healthcare, livelihoods, renewable energy, and mobile connectivity. Key developments include:

-Infrastructure: Construction of 13 Anganwadi Centers is underway, with plans for 50 additional centers to commence soon. Two 100-bedded hostels (50 boys, 50 girls) are being built at Katomei Upper Primary School and Maram Khullen High School. Additionally, tenders have been initiated for 10 Multi-Purpose Centers (MPCs) to provide integrated services in remote PVTG villages.

-Livelihoods: Two Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) at Willong and Naojai are under development to support economic empowerment.

-Housing: A survey identified 1,941 beneficiaries for secure, habitable housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G).

-Connectivity: Proposals for nine roads, totaling 35.19 km, have been submitted under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), awaiting approval to enhance rural connectivity.

The Senapati District Administration is adopting a mission-mode approach to achieve full saturation of all PM JANMAN interventions. This comprehensive effort underscores the Government of India’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowered future for PVTGs.
