Two-day National Meet of Directors of Central and State Forensic Science Laboratories to be held in Chandigarh
Meet to explore Strengthening of Forensic Science Services as per the New Criminal Laws

A two-day National Meet of the Directors of Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs) and State Forensic Science Laboratories (FSL’s) is being held at Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Chandigarh during 23rd and 24th May, 2025. The subject of the National Meet is “Strengthening of Forensic Science Services as per the New Criminal Laws”, and the Meet is being organized by the Directorate of Forensic Science Services (DFSS), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
The Meet will have discussions on the implementation of latest technologies in the field of forensics and its implication for the three new criminal laws. An overview of the same will be conducted by Dr. G. K. Goswami, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and Founder Director of the UP State Institute of Forensic Sciences (UPSIFS), who is also the Chief Guest for the inaugural session being held on 23rd May, 2025. The Chief Guest will also inaugurate the three facilities indigenously developed at CFSL, Chandigarh, namely, Drone Forensic Analysis Laboratory, Snake Venom Detection Laboratory, Damaged Media Analysis Facility and Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (e-Forensics 2.0) to the nation.
On the valediction day of Director’s Meet, i.e. on 24th May, 2025, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar will release the Crime Scene Management SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) as per new criminal laws and forensic psychology.
The Meet will strive to come up with a roadmap for strengthening Forensic Science Services through capacity building and human resource development. It also seeks to identify grey areas of research to meet the upcoming challenges being posed by terrorists in commission of crimes. The Two-Day Meet will also discuss modernization of infrastructure and standardization of best practices in forensic science.
The Meet also proposes the Integration of Forensic Science Laboratories with the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS), where all the five pillars, i.e. Forensics, Courts, Police, Public Prosecutors and Prisons will be integrated.
During the Directors’ Meet, there will be discussion about the strengthening of the Inter-agency coordination, sharing of technical know-how and collaboration whereby turnaround time and case handling time can be minimized. It will also have open house discussions, interactive sessions and presentations by the various state/UT Forensic Science Directors on Best Practices and Challenges in Forensic Science and futuristic plans.
To realize the Prime Minister’s vision of Self-Reliant India (Atma Nirbhar Bharat) and ”Make in India” and become more efficient and competitive, the Scientists of CFSL, Chandigarh under Directorate of Forensic Science Services (DFSS) have indigenously developed 1) Women Security Device (Raksha Sutra), 2) Rotating Paper Disc (RPD), 3) Automatic Speaker Identification System (SPID), 4) Chip-Off Technique, 5) AI-Enabled Low-cost Hand-held Device for Writer Verification / Off-line Signature Verification and 6) Software for Authentication of Audio-Video Footage under the Extramural Research Project (EMR) awarded by DFSS, New Delhi to various universities including IITs under these projects.
Two patents also been published by the Scientists of CFSL, Chandigarh. The technique developed/invented will be demonstrated to the all the stakeholders such as Police, Judiciary and Scientists.
The National Meet will bring out certain policies and processes for the Strengthening of Forensic Science Services and disposal of cases, thereby strengthening India’s criminal justice system.
