Posted On: 24 MAY 2025 2:23PM by PIB Ahmedabad

Nyasa, the student-run outreach initiative of the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN), is hosting its annual summer camp from May 21 to May 30 on the IITGN campus. The week-long immersive programme aims to work towards the holistic development of children from the government school of Shahpur village and the Nyasa school.

Like every year, the camp features engaging science experiments, along with several sessions in arts, theatre, sports, gender sensitisation, and filmmaking. This year also includes an interesting range of hands-on activities such as origami, superhero costume-making and collaborative performances, all planned and conducted by student and staff members of IITGN.

A team of 35 dedicated students and staff volunteers are facilitating the camp, benefiting approximately 65 participants from local schools in Gandhinagar. The initiative underscores Nyasa’s ongoing commitment to empowering underprivileged children by enhancing access to quality education, healthcare, and other essential resources. Over the past few years, Nyasa has expanded its impact through a comprehensive approach that combines structured academic support, enriching seasonal camps, vibrant cultural celebrations, and targeted health and welfare drives. The annual summer camp not only introduces the children to the vibrant academic and cultural environment of the campus but also nurtures their confidence and creativity.

Reflecting on her experience, Vigneshwari, a student volunteer at IITGN, shared, “Volunteering at the Nyasa Origami Summer Camp at IITGN was a truly refreshing experience. Interacting with the children and watching their creativity unfold through paper was both heartwarming and inspiring. Their curiosity, joy, and enthusiasm made the session delightful. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a fun and meaningful initiative.” The camp is a celebration of inclusive education and community engagement, reflecting IITGN’s broader mission of social responsibility and community engagement. “It is deeply satisfying to witness and be part of this initiative which enables the holistic development of kids around the IITGN campus”, noted Prof Sriharitha Rowthu, faculty-in-charge, Nyasa.
