Open air theatre, office of the proctorial board and two selfie points inaugurated at Pondicherry University. Vice chancellor Prof. Prakash Babu inaugurated the OpenAir Theatre in the Campus to accommodate thousands of students and joined the sapling plantation at the newly built Open-air theatre. The Vice Chancellor emphaised in his speech about the need of an Open-air theatre for Generation Z. Now the young generation is multi-talented and good at visual arts and performing arts as well across the disciplines of their studies. This Open-air Theatre is creating a stage for not only cultural events, but also for the informal intellectual discourse among the students and scholars. 

 

Further, Prof. P. Prakash Babu inaugurated the office of the Proctorial Board of Pondicherry University. On this occasion, he addressed all the stakeholders and explained the background and purpose of the Proctorial Board.   He mentioned that the Pondicherry University Proctorial Board Regulations are formulated after careful reference of other central universities by a duly constituted Committee. It is in order to maintain discipline and ensure code of conduct among the students in the Campus.

 

Further, Prof. Y. Venkata Rao, Dean, Students’ Welfare also mentioned about the Board that the provision for Proctorial Board is as per the Pondicherry University Act, 1985. With the University expanding and adding courses with large number of students, it is necessary to constitute the Proctorial Board to ensure that disciplinary processes are followed by following principles of natural justice and teaching and learning activities are carried out smoothly without any disturbances. To ensure fairness in the functioning of the Board, the composition of the Board is consisting of all categories including representation from minority, women and North-East Region.

The Vice-Chancellor also inaugurated two selfie-points in the Campus in different locations. This feature is added on the Campus with an intention to inculcate among the students the institutional loyalty and the love towards the place where they spend time and experienced the campus life.  In fact, the students and scholars cherish the moments they enjoyed and captured in selfie in their campus life.

Thus, today three major facilities were added in the existing infrastructure of the Pondicherry University. These are going to support the students in a larger context, especially in co-curriculum related activities for enhancing their learning experience in the University Campus. The programme ended with the vote of thanks offered by Prof. Sibi. P.S., Deputy Dean – Students’ Welfare.
