JIPMER Celebrates 11th International Day of Yoga with a Series of Events Promoting Mind Body Wellness

In response to directives from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, the Advanced Centre for Yoga Therapy Education and Research (ACYTER), Department of Physiology, JIPMER, successfully organized a series of programs to commemorate the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) under the theme of Yoga for One Earth, One Health for promoting holistic health and wellness.

As part of the celebrations, a free training camp on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) was held from May 27th to June 20th 2025. The camp was open to JIPMER students, employees, their family members and the general Public in which 137 individuals had registered and got trained in CYP and demonstrated the CYP at the JIPMER Community Hall from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM on 21ST June 2025.

On June 20th, a Workshop entitled “Stress Management” on “Mindfulness and Melody: The art of stress relief” was conducted from 2:15 PM to 4:30 PM for the Students, staff’s and their dependents. The sessions were conducted by both internal and external expert faculty. Notably, guest speakers included resource persons from Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education. The workshop was well-received with 202 participants in attendance.
The program on 21st June started with the live streaming of Our Honourable Prime Minister’s International Yoga Day address telecasted from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, attended by the faculty, residents and staff of the Institute, which was presided by Shri S. Rangabashiam, Deputy Director Administration followed by the inaugural session of 11th International Yoga Day, JIPMER, Puducherry, The Director, JIPMER, Dr.Vir Singh Negi, stated that, Yoga therapy significantly reduces the inflammatory biomarkers as evidenced by many studies conducted in JIPMER and other places and highlighted the role of yoga in managing chronic conditions, and especially management of stress which is the need of the hour.
Adding an international dimension to the celebrations, an International Webinar titled “Harnessing the Healing Power of Yoga: From Mind-Body Balance to Clinical Applications” was organized and telecasted from the JIPMER studio. The webinar featured seven eminent speakers – four from JIPMER and three from other reputed institutions – all of whom are leading researchers in the field of mind-body interventions. With 200 registered participants, the webinar ran from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM, offering insights into the clinical applications of yoga for health and wellbeing. In the webinar Dr.G.K.Pal, senior Professor of Physiology delivered the Keynote speech on “The art of Yoga is the science of Breathing”. Dr.Latika Mohan, Professor of Physiology, AIIMS Rishikesh, talked on Yoga for the soldiers at high altitude, Dr.Balendu Vaishnav from Gujarat spoke on guided meditation, Dr.Kaviraj Udupa from NIMHANS, Bangalore spoke on role of yoga in Neuropsychiatric disoers, in addition to other speakers from JIPMER,PY.
These events collectively express JIPMER’s commitment for integrating yoga into modern healthcare, promoting psychophysical wellness, and spreading awareness of yoga’s therapeutic potential.
