Shri. R. Kuppusamy, Sr. Director,NIC, inaugurated the 11th International Yoga Day at NIEPMD

National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities an autonomous body under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2025.

The event was organised under Awareness Generation and Publicity Scheme (AGP) of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of India. International Day of Yoga is celebrated to form a harmony between mind and body that in turn improves the mental and physical well being.


The theme for this year is ' Yoga for One Earth, One Health'. To mark the Occasion NIEPMD organized the “Mega Inclusive Yoga”. Shri. R. Kuppusamy, Sr. Director (Retd.) National Informatics Centre (NIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITy) who was the Chief Guest on the occasion and inaugurated the International Yoga Day Events by lighting the ceremonial lamp in the presence of Dr. Nachiketa Rout, Director, NIEPMD. Dr. K.K. Dhanavendan, Principal, Dept. of Special Education, NIEPMD, delivered the welcome address, Smt. B. Leelavathi, HoD, Special Education, NIEPMD, delivered the key note address. In his special address, Shri. R. Kuppusamy, Sr. Director (Retd.) National Informatics Centre (NIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITy), spoke about the holistic approaches of yoga that embraces humanity, mindfulness and harmony in our daily life. Dr. Nachiketa Rout, emphasized the importance of yoga which connects the mind and body for overall well-being. Dr. S. Ishwariya, MD, International Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy, Chengalpattu Medical College, demonstrated yoga asanas following Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) developed by Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India, and briefed about benefits of doing each asanas that rejuvenates inner body chakras, creates mental peace and harmony. Around 500 participants including Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjans), HRD students, Staffs, from diverse backgrounds across India partcicipated in this 'Mega Inclusive Yoga'. Overall, This auspicious day encouraged India's role in 'Yoga' with the aim of promoting national unity, accessibility and inclusivity.
