The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Chennai marked the 11th International Day of Yoga with a dedicated session focused on the national theme of the year – “One Earth, One Health.” The event aimed to highlight the holistic benefits of yoga and promote its integration into the lives of the campus community as a means to nurture both physical and mental well-being.

 

  

The celebration began with a campus cleaning initiative in the early hours of the morning, carried out by the housekeeping staff, setting a mindful tone for the day ahead. The yoga session that followed was conducted by Ms. Varsha Sidhwani, a seasoned yoga practitioner with 18 years of experience and four years as a certified instructor in Chennai.

 

  

Held under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Divya Satyan, Campus Director, and Dr. Praveen Nagarajan, Joint Director, the session witnessed the active participation of faculty members, staff, and officers of NIFT Chennai. For those unable to participate in the traditional session due to health concerns, chair and desk yoga alternatives were introduced, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all.

The initiative was supported by the SDACs and Faculty Club Advisors from the Sports, Adventure, and Photography clubs. The event served as a reminder of the importance of incorporating yoga into daily routines — not just as a physical exercise, but as a mindful practice of gratitude and self-care.“Yoga is not just a workout, it is a way of life. It teaches us to slow down, breathe, and be present — values that are essential for the overall growth of any individual, especially for young professionals,” remarked Ms. Sidhwani during the session.

NIFT Chennai continues to foster wellness and holistic growth among its academic community by embedding mindful practices such as yoga into the institutional ethos.
