Siddha Central Research Institute, Chennai celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga

 The Siddha Central Research Institute (SCRI), Arumbakkam, Chennai, organised a series of impactful events under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”

    

As per the directions of Ministry of Ayush and guidance of Prof. Dr. NJ Muthukumar, Director General, Central Council for Research in Siddha, with a team of doctors and other research officers conducted two satellite events on June 21, 2025, from 7:00 AM to 7:45 AM, in collaboration with the Government Siddha Medical College (GSMC), Chennai and BVM Global School, Perumbakkam.

 

    

GSMC, Chennai: Over 350 participants, including SCRI and GSMC staff, outpatients, and students enthusiastically participated in the event.  The Principal of Government Siddha Medical College, Dr. M.D. Saravana Devi, and Professor Dr. G. Ujjeevanam delivered the inaugural address. Dr. Anbarasi, Research Officer (Siddha), Sci II, SCRI, coordinated the event and delivered a speech on the importance and benefits of Yoga. Dr. P. Elankani, Research Officer (Siddha), Sci IV, SCRI, delivered the vote of thanks.

 

  

BVM Global School: Over 300 students and volunteers enthusiastically participated in this event as per the yoga protocol. The inaugural program was initiated and addressed by Mrs. Anuradha Ramakrishnan, Principal of BVM Global School welcomed the gathering and felicitated the organizers. The Keynote address was delivered by Dr. R. Ganesan AD (Biochemistry), SCRI. Dr. L. Juliet Research Officer (Siddha), Sci II delivered a speech about the importance and benefits of Yoga according to Thirumoolar. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. R. Shakila RO (Chemistry), Sci-III, SCRI.

These events were planned to promote yoga-based lifestyle interventions, featuring demonstrations of CYP and simple Yogasanas (postures). This collaborative effort aims to reach a wider audience and reinforce the importance of yoga as a practical tool for maintaining overall health and well-being.

Hundreds of thousands of individuals across the length and breadth of the country will unite in this harmonized yoga session simultaneously with the main IDY event which is celebrated at a grand scale at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh and led by the Prime Minister.

As pre-events of Yoga Day, SCRI also organized Yoga Samavesh with thematic lectures and Yoga demonstrations for Diabetes, Hypertension and Mental Health for the public including Senior citizens under the guidance of Dr. A. Kanagarajan, In Charge SCRI. Staff of SCRI organised yoga sessions in their residential place on 21.06.2025 to foster the culture of daily yoga among the common public.

SCRI is a flagship institute for Siddha clinical and drug research in India under CCRS, Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India to promote research that combines indigenous wisdom with modern validation strategies in Siddha.
