BIS Bengaluru Hosts ‘Manak Manthan’ to Promote Industry Participation in Standard Formulation

The Bureau ofIndian Standards (BIS), Bengaluru Branch Office, successfully organized the ‘Manak Manthan’ programme today at RG Royal Hotel, Bengaluru. This initiative aimed to strengthen industry involvement in the formulation, revision, and implementation ofIndian Standards.

The programme began with the BIS Manak Geet, followed by a welcome address from Shri Narender Reddy Beesu, Scientist-E and Director, BIS Bengaluru. He highlighted the critical role of standards in building a quality-driven ecosystem and encouraged participants to engage actively in the standardization process. He emphasized BIS’s openness to feedback and queries from stakeholders to strengthen mutual collaboration.

Shri K. Rajashekhar, Scientist-D and Joint Director, BIS Bengaluru introduced the objectives of Manak Manthan, noting that the platform serves as an open forum for dialogue, clarification, and awareness about new and revised Indian Standards. He called for greater participation from manufacturers, industry representatives, and quality professionals to ensure that standards remain practical, current, and impactful.

A key highlight of the programme was the detailed technical session on IS 1660:2024 - Wrought & Cast Aluminium Utensils, conducted by Shri Narender Reddy Beesu. The session provided in-depth insights into product specifications, technical changes, compliance expectations, and the implications of the revised standard for certification and production processes.

Participants raised valuable suggestions, including the inclusion of more utensil varieties, mandatory raw material specifications under BIS licence, and the restriction of unsafe coatings to ensure consumer safety. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 35 industry stakeholders, who welcomed the interactive format and appreciated BIS Bengaluru’s efforts in fostering a transparent and quality-focused standardization environment.
