CGST, Bengaluru Zone celebrates GST day

The GST Day, 2025 commemorating the 8th anniversary of introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) was celebrated by the Central Goods and Services Tax, Bengaluru Zone on July 01, 2025.
The 8th GST day is marked by buoyant tax collection in the State of Karnataka resulting in overall collection of Rs 1.61 Lakh crores in F.Y. 2024-25. This makes Karnataka the 2nd highest tax collecting State after Maharashtra. The taxpayer base of the state has also expanded over the years and with approximately 10.45 lakh registered taxpayers, Karnataka ranks 5th among the states of India.
As a part of GST day celebrations, GST Pakhwada was organised from June 16 to June 30, 2025 by setting up GST help desks across the Zone to resolve the issues of trade and raise awareness among the stakeholders. Special focus was given to ensure timely and effective redressal of the grievances raised by the trade. During the GST Pakhwada, taxpayer facilitation measures taken by the Central Goods and Services Tax of Bengaluru Zone were highlighted to the taxpayers. These measures include notifying Grievance Redressal Mechanism for processing of application for GST registration, notifying more than 100 facilitation centers for the purpose of biometric-based Aadhaar Authentication across the state, Decentralization of Centralised Processing Center for new GST registration to handle the GST registration process at the level of Commissionerate etc.

On July 1, 2025, a GST workshop on the theme “GST @8: Reimagining Indirect Taxation with AI” was conducted which was attended by the senior officers of the Central Tax of Bengaluru Zone. During the workshop, the guest speaker Shri Prakash Kumar, CEO Government Digital Transformation, Wadhwani Foundation, New Delhi, highlighted the efforts taken by the government towards simplifying the tax system and discussed the future roadmap of GST by leveraging transformative digital models, and potential of AI- driven system in enhancing tax compliance, policy formulation and citizen centric governance.
A Panel discussion on the topic “GST: Simplifying Taxes; Empowering Citizens” was also organised by the CGST Bengaluru zone. The panellists included Shri Prakash Kumar, CEO Government Digital Transformation, Shri D. P. Nagendra Kumar, Special Secretary & Member CBIC (retired), Shri Rahul Kothari COO of Razorpay, Shri Veeresh Prasad GM & Head of Taxation, Toyota Kirloskar, Shri Bhaskar Anand Rao, CFO, BIAL and Shri Ishan Bansal CFO, Groww. The discussion was moderated by Ms. Kajal Singh, Chief Commissioner of Central Tax, Bengaluru Zone.

The GST Day celebration reinforces the commitment of Central Board of Indirect Taxes for building a more streamlined, transparent, and growth-friendly tax ecosystem.
