The NFDC-National Film Archive of India (NFDC-NFAI) is set to host a special three-day retrospective titled "Through the Eyes of Navroze" from July 11 to 13, 2025. This curated event will celebrate the remarkable life and work of Navroze Contractor, the distinguished photographer, cinematographer, writer and filmmaker whose visual storytelling has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.

As part of the tribute, NFDC-NFAI will screen a selection of films that showcase Contractor’s distinctive craft and artistic vision. The programme opens on Friday, July 11 at 6:30 PM with Kya Hua Is Sheher Ko (1986) directed by Deepa Dhanraj, followed on Saturday, July 12 at 6:30 PM by Hun Hunshi Hunshilal (1992) directed by Sanjiv Shah. The final day, Sunday, July 13, features three screenings: Limited Manuski (1995) directed by Jayoo and Nachiket Patwardhan at 11:00 AM, Percy (1989) directed by Pervez Merwanji at 2:00 PM and Duvidha (1973) directed by Mani Kaul at 6:30 PM. A special panel discussion at 5:00 PM on Sunday will bring together collaborators, scholars and admirers to reflect on Navroze Contractor’s contributions to documentary and feature filmmaking in India, and the unique sensibility that defined his work behind the camera.

Navroze Contractor’s keen eye and deeply humanistic approach shaped the visual language of several landmark films, making him one of the most respected figures in Indian cinematography. Through this tribute, NFDC-NFAI reaffirms its commitment to preserving and promoting the legacies of visionary artists whose work continues to inspire generations of filmmakers and cinephiles alike.

All screenings will take place at the NFDC-NFAI premises in Pune and are open to students, film enthusiasts and the general public. Entry is free and on a first come, first served basis.
