Hon. Minister of State for MSME & Labour and Employment visited KVIC, Bengaluru


KVI Sector aims to save traditional industries in rural areas and improve the livelihoods of poor artisans: Hon. MoS MSME

Hon. Minister of State for Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Ministry of Labour and Employment, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje visited the KVIC, Bengaluru today. The minister emphasized the need to focus on empowering artisans/beneficiaries, aligning with “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra”.

Addressing the programme, organized at MDTC Campus, KVIC, Bengaluru, the Hon.Minister highlighted that, under the visionary leadership of Hon. PM Shri. Narendra Modi, throughout India, Khadi and Village Industry (KVI) Sector has witnessed significant production performance of Rs. 1,16,599.75 Crores with sales of Rs. 1,70,551.37 Crores, providing employment to 1.94 Crores people, which is a testament to the Government's commitment to the welfare of Khadi & Village Industries artisans.

In the last 11 years there has been an increase of 447% in sales, 347% in production and 49% in employment generation. This success can be attributed to "Modi Ki Guarantee," reflecting the Prime Minister's unwavering commitment to the artisan’s well-being.

The minister said that the KVI Sector aims to save traditional industries in rural areas and improve the livelihoods of poor artisans, including Tribes, Hilly Areas, particularly SC/ST and Women. These artisans are experiencing a notable transition, with increased livelihoods and employment aligning with the Government's strong dedication to the well-being of Khadi artisans, who aim to empower the masses, as part of the “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra”.

The minister said that Khadi has become a symbol of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” with Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi being the torchbearer of taking ahead the development of KVIC. The KVIC has been continuously working on the vision of the Hon. Prime Minister to create sustainable employment opportunities even in the remote areas of Karnataka. KVIC in Karnataka, plays an important role in achieving these targets. In the year 2024-25,208 Khadi Institutions in Karnataka achieved remarkable growth, with the Production performance of Rs. 535.21 Crores and Retail Sales performance of Rs. 667.95 Crores by providing employment to 21745 rural artisans.

The minister mentioned that Margin Money distribution of worth Rs. 132.41 Crores to 4379 beneficiaries under PMEGP created 43557 employment opportunities in Karnataka. “Under the leadership of the Hon. PM, Shri. Narendra Modi, KVIC is actively contributing to the Indian economy by offering self-sustainable employment opportunities,” said the minister.

Hon. Minister of State for MSME and Labour & Employment mentioned that,during the year 2024-25, KVIC distributed 1916 No. of tools and equipment to 1210 Nos. of beneficiaries of various Village Industries Verticals such as Honey Mission, Sewing Machines, Electric Pottery Wheels, Automatic Agarbatti machines, Foot Wear repairing tool kits, Foot Wear making machines, Plumber & Electrician etc. under Gramodyog Vikas Yojana (GVY) in Karnataka to empower them for their speedy growth, producing qualitative products and to continue their sustainability and lucrative livelihood and also to make the vision of Make in India more meaningful.

The minister highlighted that, Hon. Prime Minister's vision for Khadi extends far beyond fabric, weaving a future of self-reliance for local artisans and entrepreneurs. Through initiatives like PMEGP, MMDA, KRDP, Work-Shed, etc. Khadi is not just thriving, but generating substantial employment and economic empowerment. The commitment of KVIC to globalize Khadi ensures that, this emblem of national pride will continue to be woven into a brighter future for generations to come.

The minister interacted with senior officers of KVIC, NBCC India, and representatives of Khadi Institutions. The minister also interacted with the trainees and distributed the Skill Development Training Certificates to them.

The minister informed that the issue regarding Cauvery Water connection has been taken up with the BWSSB, Bengaluru and the same will be completed by at the earliest. The minister directed the KVIC to take up the Court Cases pertains the disputed land of in the appropriate Court and settle the same immediately.
