The Office of the Welfare and Cess Commissioner, under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, has been actively working towards the upliftment of labour communities by implementing various welfare schemes, including scholarships to support the education of workers’ children. As part of this ongoing initiative, the Ministry has invited online applications for financial assistance for the academic year 2025–26.

The scholarships are meant for the children of Beedi, Mine and Cine workers, with financial support ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹25,000 depending on the class or course of study. Students studying in classes I to XII, as well as those enrolled in ITI, polytechnic, degree courses (including BSc Agriculture) and professional programmes are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

As per Mr. Mrinmoy Thakur, Deputy Welfare Commissioner, Labour Welfare Organisation,  Guwahati, all eligible students are encouraged to apply within the given deadlines. Applications must be submitted online through the National Scholarship Portal at https://scholarships.gov.in .The deadline for Pre-Matric Scholarship applications is August 31, 2025, while the Post-Matric Scholarship applications can be submitted until October 31, 2025. All benefits are transferred directly to the students’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to ensure transparency and timely delivery.
