Mumbai, 28 July 2025

The Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai (NSCM) — a premier science communication institution under the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the JSW Foundation will inaugurate a new Mobile Science Exhibition (MSE) bus on the vital theme of ‘Hygiene & Sanitation’ on 30th July, 2025 at Jindal Vidya Mandir, Vasind.

This Mobile Science Exhibition is a dynamic outreach initiative under NCSM’s visionary theme “Reaching the Unreached”, designed to take science beyond institutional boundaries and directly into rural communities. The newly developed exhibition features 20 interactive exhibits focusing on critical aspects of health and hygiene, including personal hygiene, immunity, nutrition, clean drinking water, sleep hygiene, and waste management.

The programme seeks to transform students into ‘young hygiene ambassadors’ through engaging formats such as hands-on demonstrations and science models, immersive Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) experiences, sky observation sessions using telescopes, scientific film screenings, and “Make & Take” workshops where students build and take home science models.

The objectives of the initiative include promoting personal and community hygiene awareness among school children, encouraging the adoption of safe sanitation practices in schools, inspiring scientific thinking and curiosity through interactive learning, and empowering communities through accessible, mobile science education. By enhancing health awareness through innovative, tech-enabled learning, the initiative promotes the principle of "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind" by focusing on WASH — Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene — and inspiring lasting behavioural change among students and their communities.

Over the next three months, the MSE bus will travel to 45 schools across Vasind, Salav, Dolvi, Raigad, and Palghar districts, impacting an estimated 90,000 students and educators and promoting science-based hygiene education in underserved regions.

This initiative reaffirms the shared commitment of NSCM and JSW Foundation to nurturing a scientific temper, promoting healthy living habits, and supporting the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
