Schemes of NPDD

Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying is implementing “National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD)” scheme across the country since 2014-15. NPDD is implemented with the following 2 components:
(i) Component ''A'' of NPDD focuses on creating/strengthening of infrastructure for quality milk testing equipment as well as primary chilling facilities for State Cooperative Dairy Federations/ District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union/ Self Help Groups (SHGs)/ Milk Producer Companies/ Farmer Producer Organizations.
(ii) Component “B” of the NPDD scheme "Dairying through Cooperatives” aims to increase sale of milk and dairy products by increasing farmer’s access to organized market, upgrading dairy processing facilities and marketing infrastructure and enhancing the capacity of producer owned institutions.
Under NPDD scheme, financial assistance is provided to State Cooperative Dairy Federations/ District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union/SHGs/Milk Producer Companies/Farmer Producer Organizations for construction/strengthening of infrastructure for primary chilling facilities along with the quality milk testing equipment. Under the scheme, till date, 5707 Bulk Milk Coolers with 140.65 lakh litres chilling capacity, 47,785 Automatic Milk Collection Unit and Data Processing and Milk Collection Unit, 7840 Milk Analysers and 7550 Electronic Milk Adulteration Testing Equipment have been installed at primary/village level dairy cooperative societies.
Under NPDD scheme, 8 projects have been approved in Gujarat with the total outlay of Rs.552.82 crore (including Central share of Rs.337.52 crore) against which an amount of Rs.246.10 crore has been released to implementing agencies. This includes Rs.66.89 crore (Central share Rs.39.96 crore) approved for Mehsana Milk Union for installation of 290 Bulk Milk Coolers, 678 Automatic Milk Collection Unit with Milk Analyzer, 500 Electronic Milk Adulteration Testing Machine and Strengthening of Mehsana Dairy Plant laboratory. This information was given by Union Minister of State, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, in a written reply in Lok Sabha on 29th July, 2025.
