PARLIAMENT QUESTION: VIGYAN JYOTI PROGRAMME IN KERALA

The major objectives of the Vigyan Jyoti Programme, which was initiated in 2019, is to encourage meritorious girls to pursue higher education and careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. The programme promotes gender parity in STEM through various year-round activities such as hands-on experiential learning sessions, interactions with scientific role models, visits to R&D and industrial laboratories, career guidance workshops, and student-parent counselling sessions. These activities are designed to enhance the interest and inclination of girls towards science.
The details of the total funds allocated and disbursed under the Vigyan Jyoti Programme during the last five years are as follows:

The districts in Kerala selected under the VigyanJyoti Programme are Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Wayanad, Idukki, Kasaragod, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kottayam, and Palakkad.
The Vigyan Jyoti Programme has benefitted nearly 2,800 girl students from Kerala by providing academic support, mentoring, financial assistance, exposure visits, and coaching to encourage them to pursue careers in STEM fields.
This information was given by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, MoS PMO, MoS Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
