The 79th Anniversary of India’s Independence Day was celebrated with great joy and patriotic fervour at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Gandhinagar. The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood, Director, NIFT Gandhinagar, followed by the National Anthem. The event was graced by Prof. Vishal Gupta, Campus Academic Coordinator, Dr. Amar Tiwari, Professor, Department of Fashion Technology, Dr. Shubhangi Yadav, Chairperson, Textile Design, and Prof. Vandita Seth, Chairperson, Fashion Design.

The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by a vibrant cultural programme, featuring classical dance performances, melodious patriotic songs, and poetry recitations by NIFT students. Certificates of appreciation were presented to students for their outstanding performances during the National Handloom Day celebrations and Bharat Tex 2025.

In his address, Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood emphasised the significance of this year’s Independence Day theme – Naya Bharat (New India). He echoed the Prime Minister’s message from the Red Fort, highlighting that Atmanirbhar Bharat—self-reliance—is the cornerstone of India’s journey towards a Viksit Bharat by 2047. Quoting  Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, he noted the emphasis on the “Daam kam, dum zyada” philosophy, ensuring Indian products are both affordable and of high quality, aligning with Make in India and Vocal for Local initiatives. He also underlined the call for visible “Swadeshi” signage to instil pride and support local entrepreneurship. Prof. Sameer Sood stressed that parallel national developments reflect their growing importance in India’s self-reliance agenda, reinforcing NIFT Gandhinagar’s commitment to promoting the country’s rich textile heritage and craft traditions.

The 79th Independence Day celebrations at NIFT Gandhinagar not only honoured the nation’s rich legacy but also reaffirmed the institute’s dedication to shaping a self-reliant, innovative, and culturally rooted India. Inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047, the event served as a reminder of the power of unity, creativity, and commitment in building the Naya Bharat—where tradition and modernity go hand in hand to create a stronger future for the nation.
