The Defence Forces in Chennai celebrated the 79^th Independence Day today (15.08.2025) at the Victory War Memorial in Chennai. 

  

On the occasion, all the Service Heads led by Lieutenant General V Sreehari, AVSM, SC, SM, General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area of Indian Army, Rear Admiral Satish Shenai, NM,Flag Officer Commanding ,TN and Puducherry Naval Area of Indian Anvy, Air Commodore Tapan Sharma, Air Officer Commanding, Indian Air Force Station Tambaram and representative of Inspector General Indian Coast Guard and veterans laid wreaths at the Victory War Memorial.

  

For the first time, the Independence Day celebrations at the Victory War Memorial witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students from nearby schools and colleges and NCC Cadets who were eager to be part of the ceremony and celebrations. Speaking to the students, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) emphasized the sacrifices made by soldiers and the need for children’s participation in Nation building. He also lauded the war heroes whose contribution ensured the nation’s safety and its march towards growth. He emphasized that children, who are the future of India, should lead the country towards peace, development and innovation. More than 50 students from Devi Academy, La Chatelaine school, Army Public School, The Muthialpet Higher Secondary School, Presidency College, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Dr MGR University took part in the celebrations at the Victory War Memorial.
