Yadagiri MLA Shri Channareddy Patil Tunnur inaugurated “Vartalap” workshop jointly organised by Press Information Bureau Bengaluru, Yadagiri District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Information and Public Relations Department, Karnataka Working Journalists Association’s District Unit and Karnataka Editors Association’s District Unit.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Shri Channareddy expressed great pleasure in inaugurating this workshop for journalists. He emphasized that the media plays a crucial role in taking the government’s development schemes to every village. In this regard, the Vartalap workshop organized by the PIB, Bengaluru will be highly beneficial. He stated that increased publicity of development programs will ensure that government schemes reach all beneficiaries. Libraries are functioning in most villages, creating a highly beneficial environment for people, especially students. This is one of the government's finest initiatives, he said. He also expressed hope that more such development programs would benefit the public.

Shri S G Raveendra, Additional Director General, Press Information Bureau, Bengaluru also addressed the event. He recalled that the Centrally-sponsored schemes are implemented through the state governments. Only when both the centre and the state jointly work towards implementing the schemes, we will be able to see the benefits reaching the targeted population. He also recalled the Hon’ble Union Minster of State for Information & Broadcasting Dr. L Murugan’s statement in Lok Sabha where he stated that, community channels have increased from 104 to 510 in rural areas. Also, 264 new community radio stations and 6 Doordarshan channels have been commissioned. Shri S. G. Raveendra also spoke about the Union government’s Umang mobile app which gives comprehensive information about government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat Scheme, Jan Aushadhi Kendra and many other government schemes that are beneficial for farmers, youth, women and children. He urged the journalists to provide greater publicity to such government initiatives in order to reach the targeted beneficiaries.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Commissioner of Yadgiri, Shri Harshal Boyar stated that Yadgiri has been included in the list of Aspirational Districts programme of the Union government. As an agriculture-based district, comprehensive information about the implementation of sustainable agriculture, horticulture, and irrigation projects will be provided in the workshop. He also emphasised that journalists should understand and disseminate the information about people-centric schemes in critical areas such as employment, insurance, education, health and youth empowerment, he said.
District Superintendent of Police, Shri Pruthvik Shankar while addressing the gathering, recalled that media is the fourth pillar of democracy. He urged the journalists to provide accurate and factual information while not compromising the speed of dissemination. He stated that responsible journalism is the need of the hour. He also informed that the police department has activated a helpline service to curb cyber-crimes.

Shri Mallappa Sankeen, President of District Working journalists Association stressed that the journalists should learn about the various schemes and initiatives of the government before disseminating to the public. He also emphasised that journalists should write more research oriented articles.
Kumari Lalita Anapur, Chairperson, Yadgiri City Municipal Council, Shri Lavish Ordia, CEO, Yadgiri Zilla Panchayat, Shri Baburao Kadlur, Chairman, Yadgiri Urban Development Authority, Shri Sulaiman D. Nadaf, Senior Assistant Director, Department of Information and Public Relations, Shri Siddappa Lingeri, President, Karnataka Editors Association District Unit were present in the event.
The workshop was attended by more than hundred media representatives.
