Meeting on Construction of ROBs/RUBs in Bengaluru Region

A review meeting on the construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) in and around Bengaluru was held today at Kumara Krupa Guest House, Bengaluru. The meeting was chaired by Shri V. Somanna, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti.
The meeting was attended by Shri P.C. Mohan, Hon’ble MP Bengaluru Central; Dr. C.N. Manjunath, Hon’ble MP Bengaluru Rural; Shri Mallesh Babu, Hon’ble MP Kolar, along with Railway officials, Bengaluru Police, and senior officers from the State Government.

Shri V. Somanna reviewed the progress of ROB (Road Over Bridge) and RUB (Road Under Bridge) works and instructed officials of both the Central and State Governments to work collaboratively to resolve any issues that may delay the execution of these projects. He emphasized that the collective goal is to ensure all projects are completed efficiently and expeditiously for the greater convenience of the public.
Later Shri V. Somanna interacted with the Media and informed that in the last ten years (2014–2025), approximately 75 ROBs and RUBs have been constructed in lieu of Level Crossing gates. Out of these, 56 were fully funded by Railways at a cost of ₹142 crores, 16 were executed under cost-sharing between the State and Central Governments, and 3 were built by NHAI.
He further announced that 39 more level crossings in and around Bengaluru are planned to be replaced by ROBs and RUBs in order to ease traffic congestion and enhance public safety.

The Bengaluru City Police presented a list of the most traffic-congested railway gates in the city, where construction of ROBs and RUBs will be taken up on priority. It was also informed that 13 ROBs and RUBs have already been sanctioned in Bengaluru and work is in progress.
Shri Tushar Girinath, Additional Secrectary, Urban Development Dept.; Shri Ajay Sharma, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction); Shri Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru; Shri Manivannan, Commissioner, BDA; Shri Kartik Reddy, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic and other officials were present.
