NCVET conducts Zonal Workshop for Northeast Region in Guwahati focusing on quality, capacity building, and skilling for the future

National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), in collaboration with the Government of Assam, held a Zonal Capacity Building and Awareness Workshop for the Northeast Region today at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Guwahati.
Dr. Vinita Aggarwal, Executive Member, NCVET, in her address highlighted the unique opportunities and challenges of skill development in the Northeast, emphasizing that skill initiatives must move beyond policy frameworks to effectively reach the state level. She underscored NCVET’s role as a facilitator in bringing coherence to the skilling ecosystem through unified standards and robust certification mechanisms.
Shri Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, Principal Secretary, Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship Department, Government of Assam, delivered the inaugural address in today’s event. Dr. Neena Pahuja, Executive Member, NCVET, in her address emphasized the paradigm shift towards future skilling, underscoring the need to align vocational training with the demands of a technology-driven economy. She highlighted Artificial Intelligence (AI) as not just a disruptive force but also a transformative enabler, calling for skilling ecosystems to integrate AI competencies across sectors. Dr. Pahuja stressed that preparing youth with digital and AI-driven capabilities is essential to ensure India’s workforce remains agile, innovative, and globally competitive in the years ahead.
In the closing remarks Dr. Suhas Deshmukh, Director, NCVET, emphasized the importance of building synergy between states and NCVET to drive convergence and ensure effective implementation of skill development programs.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, including representatives from State Skill Development Missions, State Councils, Universities, and Technical Boards. It also witnessed the participation of senior officials and education leaders, including Shri Rangumbuing Nsarangbe, Chairperson, Nagaland Board of School Education, Shri Narendra Kumar Shah, Director, Employment & Craftsman Training, Government of Assam and Smt. Kasturi Bharali, Secretary, Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship Department, Government of Assam
The workshop marks another milestone in strengthening stakeholder engagement, enhancing quality, and promoting the integration of vocational education with mainstream education in the Northeast region.
