SMP Kolkata Achieves Appreciable Growth in Cargo Handling

Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, (SMP Kolkata) formerly known as Kolkata Port Trust, has experienced a significant achievement in cargo handling, recording a growth of 16.02% during the period of April to August 2025. The port handled a total of 28.236 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo, a notable increase from the 24.337 MMT handled during the same period in 2024. This impressive performance is a result of outstanding contributions from both its dock systems: Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) and Kolkata Dock System (KDS).
HDC handled 20.625 MMT of cargo from April to August 2025, compared to 18.216 MMT in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a robust growth of 13.23%.
KDS demonstrated even more exceptional growth, handling 7.611 MMT of cargo during April-August 2025, a significant jump from 6.121 MMT in April-August 2024. This performance marks a high growth rate of 24.35%.
Shri Rathendra Raman, Chairman, appreciated team SMP Kolkata led by Deputy Chairman, Shri Samrat Rahi, the untiring efforts of all port officials, and the continued support from its valued stakeholders. The collective dedication and strategic initiatives have been instrumental in driving this growth and solidifying SMP, Kolkata's position as a key player in India's maritime sector.

The Chairman, SMP Kolkata added that the port remains committed to enhancing its operational efficiency and infrastructure to support the growing trade and contribute to the nation's economic progress.
