Hon’ble Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar inaugurated the "Shilp Samagam Mela" organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment at Freedom Park in Gandhinagar, Bengaluru, today.

During the inauguration, the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Ramdas Athawale, Member of Parliament Shri P.C. Mohan, and others were present. Addressing the event, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar said that several programs have been undertaken under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to economically empower Safai Karamcharis, Persons with Disabilities, Scheduled Castes, and Other Backward Classes in the direction of building Viksit Bharat. Artisan fairs are being organized across the country to provide market platforms for the products created by artisans belonging to these communities.

The "Shilp Samagam Mela” organized in Bengaluru from today until September 14th, features handicrafts made by women from self-help groups, differently-abled individuals, and safai karamcharis from 13 states, including Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab. Approximately 75 stalls offering handicrafts, sarees, various types of bangles, unique decorative items, and traditional furniture for purchase have been set up, the minister said.

He emphasised that there is a resolve to provide social justice to all backward classes to realize the vision of building a self-reliant India. The government under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is economically and socially empowering everyone, including the Scheduled Castes and the differently-abled, he said. The minister also highlighted that organizing such fairs will provide excellent market opportunities for artisans engaged in handicraft and handloom production. It will offer a platform for vendors from several neighbouring states as well. Moreover, it will enable the general public to purchase unique and traditional items from various states, he said.

Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Ramdas Athawale, stated that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's government is working to provide justice to all sections of society. He said that efforts towards ensuring social justice and economic empowerment are being undertaken in line with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's vision. It is a matter of joy that the Shilp Samagam Mela is being organized in Bengaluru. This will benefit women, artisans from backward classes and it will also facilitate the empowerment of all sections, he said.

Before addressing the event, both the ministers visited various stalls, interacted with the skilled artisans and purchased a few items at the fair to inspire the public to do the same.
