Bridging tradition with technology, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs today unveiled the Beta Version of Adi Sanskriti — a pioneering digital learning platform for tribal artforms, preserving heritage, enabling livelihoods, and connecting India’s tribal communities with the world, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, during the National Conference on Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan. The platform was formally launched by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Shri Durgadas Uikey, unveiling a new digital era for the preservation and promotion of tribal culture and heritage.

Adi Sanskriti is envisioned as the world’s first Digital University to preserve and promote the culture and traditional knowledge of tribal communities, and an online marketplace for the world to access products made by tribal artisans. The platform integrates three major components:

  • Adi Vishwavidyalaya (Digital Tribal Art Academy): Currently offering 45 immersive courses on tribal dance, painting, crafts, music, and folklore.

  • Adi Sampada (Socio-Cultural Repository): A collection of over 5,000 curated documents across five themes, covering paintings, dance, clothing & textiles, artefacts and livelihood.
  • Adi Haat (Online marketplace): Currently linked with TRIFED, this will evolve into a dedicated online marketplace for tribal artisans, enabling sustainable livelihoods and direct consumer access.

Building Through Convergence with State TRIs

Adi Sanskriti is being built in close partnership with State Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs), ensuring grassroots participation, authenticity, and convergence in its development. In its first phase, TRIs from Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh have contributed to the documentation, content curation, and digital mapping of tribal artforms. This collective effort has laid the foundation for a platform that reflects the diversity and richness of India’s tribal heritage.

Voices from the Launch

Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Sh. Durgadas Uikey highlighted the Ministry’s sustained efforts to uplift the Scheduled Tribes and preservation of their heritage. He recalled the earlier launch of Adi Vaani, an AI-based translator for tribal languages, and expressed hope that such tools would soon find utility in democratic forums and institutions.

He emphasized that, “From Shiksha to Sampada to Haat – Adi Sanskriti is a holistic platform for preservation, knowledge-sharing, and empowerment. It provides diversified knowledge about tribal communities, their Sanskriti and Virasat, and serves as a repository of art forms. With its launch, anyone can now connect with the treasure of tribal culture, heritage, and livelihoods.”

Shri Anant Prakash Pandey, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs said that Adi Sanskriti represents an important step in the direction of cultural preservation and tribal empowerment for Viksit Bharat @2047 and urged people to explore the portal, which is now live in the public domain, and share feedback for its continuous enrichment.

The Ministry has affirmed that Adi Sanskriti will be expanded in phases with more courses, repositories, and marketplace integration. The long-term vision is to scale the platform into a Tribal Digital University, offering certifications, advanced research opportunities, and transformative learning pathways.

By bringing together preservation, education, and economic empowerment, Adi Sanskriti stands as a milestone initiative to safeguard and celebrate the rich cultural legacy of India’s tribal communities, while empowering them as active participants in the digital knowledge economy.
