Sardar Vallabhai Patel Institute of Textile Management organized a special talk on the theme of “Global Sourcing and Supply Chain” in its auditorium today. Dr. P. Alli Rani, Director, SVPISTM introduced the Resource Person for this event, Mr. Tony Corlett to the students. Bhaskaran Nageswaran and Gopinath Chinnaswami, joint Managing Directors of Credence Inspection Services Pvt. Ltd, led an interactive session with the students of SVPISTM on the emerging trends of Global Sourcing and Supply Chain. Mr. Bhaskaran Nageswaran stressed on the very fact of how export license was limited before globalization. He also said that it was after 1992 that the number of exporters got increased. He also advised the students to study buyers’ data and take help of several tools available to prepare the list of suppliers. 

Mr. Tony Corlett, CEO of Sphere Sourcing Solutions, South Africa was the resource person for this insightful session. In his interaction with the students, he focused on the functionalities of sourcing offices, which integrate different steps between retailer and the buyer. He also stressed on the aspect of product-specific aspects related to maintaining the quality of a product. Mr. Corlett also touched upon the future of supply chain and different aspects of merchandising in his speech. 

Dr. Biswaranjan Ghosh, HoD of Textiles, SVPISTM reiterated on the need to understand the supply chain, which starts with consumers and ends with consumers. He thanked Mr.Gopinath Chinnaswami, an alumnus of SVPISTM, for inviting Mr. Corlett for this special talk on “Global Sourcing and Supply Chain”.
