In a landmark development in maritime infrastructure, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMP, Kolkata) today signed a Concession Agreement with JSW Infra Ltd. for the mechanisation and modernization of Berths No. 7 and 8 at Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD) under the Kolkata Dock System (KDS).

The ceremony took place in the esteemed presence of Shri Rathendra Raman, Chairman, SMP, Kolkata, Shri. Devki Nandan , Director, JSW Infrastructure Limited. Shri Samrat Rahi, Dy. Chairman, SMP, Kolkata, along with all the Heads of Departments of KDS and the team members of JSW Infra LTD. were also present.  

The Concession Agreement involves reconstruction of berth 8, mechanisation of berths 7 and 8 by installing rail-mounted quay crane (RMQC) to facilitate faster handling of container cargo along with a back up area of 25 acres and operating the berths for 30 years. The terminal is set to have a capacity of 5 lakh TEUS and the total project cost of Rs. 740 crore.

On this occasion, Shri Raman pointed out that the mechanisation of these key berths underlines SMP, Kolkata’s commitment towards strengthening the port infrastructure and enhancing trade facilitation in line with the Government of India’s vision for modern, world-class ports.

This partnership with JSW Infra Ltd. is poised to play a pivotal role in driving growth, efficiency and competitiveness of SMP Kolkata, further reinforcing SMP, Kolkata’s position as a crucial maritime gateway in Eastern India.
