14TH SIRARAKHONG HATHEI CHILLI FESTIVAL INAUGURATED

The 14th Sirarakhong Hathei Chilli Festival was inaugurated today at Sirarakhong village, Ukhrul district, Manipur, by Thaithuilung Pamei, IAS, Commissioner, Horticulture & Sericulture, Government of Manipur. The event, a vibrant celebration of the world-renowned Sirarakhong Hathei Chilli, known for its unique aroma and flavour, brought together farmers, community leaders, and dignitaries to promote agricultural heritage, environmental sustainability, and national development initiatives.

Due to inclement weather, the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Bhalla, IAS (Retd.), who was scheduled to attend as the Chief Guest, could not be present. The festival was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Sword Vashum, President, Tangkhul Naga Long; Ngamreiwung Luithui, SDO, LM Block; V. Wungkhayap Zimik, Headman of Sirarakhong; K. Wungchan, noted singer; and other community leaders.

In his inaugural address, T. Pamei commended the farmers of Sirarakhong for their dedication to preserving the unique Hathei Chilli, a symbol of the region’s agricultural excellence. He urged the youth to draw inspiration from the perseverance and hard work of their elders, emphasizing the importance of sustaining traditional farming practices while embracing modern opportunities.

The inaugural day featured a range of activities, including a ceremonial flag hoisting, vibrant cultural performances showcasing the rich heritage of the region, a Buyers–Sellers Meet to foster economic opportunities for local farmers, and a tree plantation drive under the nationwide initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. Additionally, a Photo Exhibition was organized by the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Regional Office Imphal, in collaboration with Sirarakhong village, highlighting flagship themes of the Government of India, such as “Viksit Bharat @ 2047 – Seva, Sushasan, Garib Kalyan Ke 11 Saal”.

The Sirarakhong Hathei Chilli Festival serves as a platform to celebrate the region’s agricultural pride while promoting environmental sustainability, cultural heritage, and awareness of key national programmes. The event underscores the Government’s commitment to supporting local farmers and fostering inclusive development in Manipur.
