The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today (17th September 2025) inaugurated the nationwide health campaign “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” in conjunction with the 8th Poshan Maah jointly led by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD).

Following the National launch, the inauguration at JIPMER was presided over by the  Chief Minister of Puducherry, Shri N. Rangasamy in the presence of Hon’ble Speaker Shri R. Selvam, Member of Parliament, Rajya Saba, Shri S. Selvaganabathy, and Shri V. Aroumougame AKD, MLA, Indira Nagar Constituency. The Chief Minister formally inaugurated the campaign kiosk at JIPMER’s Screening OPD and distributed beneficiary cards to women enrolled under “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan.” The Chief Minister distributed the Poshan Package to beneficiaries and issued ABHA and PMJAY cards to them. 

He also observed the comprehensive package of preventive and promotive health service components of “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” as follows: 

• General Health Check-up – baseline clinical examination including vital signs, height, weight, and BMI assessment.

• Anaemia Screening – haemoglobin testing to detect iron-deficiency and other forms of anaemia.

• Blood Pressure & Diabetes Screening – early detection of hypertension and diabetes through spot tests.

• Breast & Cervical Cancer Screening – clinical breast examination and VIA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) for cervical cancer detection.

• Nutritional Assessment & Counselling – dietary guidance, nutrition education, and referrals for supplementation if required.

• Immunisation Services – age-appropriate vaccines as per national guidelines.

• Referral Services – for women requiring specialised diagnostic evaluation or hospital-based care.

These services are supported by counselling sessions on maternal health, child nutrition, menstrual hygiene, and family well-being, ensuring holistic coverage for women and their families. 

Earlier, JIPMER participated virtually in the official national launch, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff of the Institute. On this occasion, Shri V. Vaithilingam, Member of Lok Sabha, Puducherry, and Shri V. Aroumougame AKD, MLA, Indira Nagar Constituency, graced the programme.

Dr. Vir Singh Negi, Director, JIPMER, elaborated on the Institute’s pivotal role as a regional hub for the campaign and reaffirmed JIPMER’s resolve to reach the maximum number of beneficiaries during the 16-day outreach. He added that as a key regional partner in “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan,” JIPMER remains committed to mobilising resources, expanding awareness, and delivering high-quality preventive and promotive healthcare to women and families across Puducherry.
