The Blue Tides Kerala – European Union Conclave, aimed at ensuring sustainability in the fisheries sector, commenced today at Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram. The formal inauguration of the event will take place tomorrow (September 19), with Union Minister of State for Fisheries and Minority Affairs Shri George Kurian attending as the chief guest.
Kerala Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan, along with Union and State Ministers, will also participate in the event. A high-level European Union delegation led by Hervé Delphin, Ambassador of the European Union to India, comprising over 100 members, will attend the conclave.
The event will bring together approximately 750 invited delegates, including representatives from the Federation of European Business in India, leading industrialists from Kerala, subject-matter experts, and investors from other Indian states interested in various collaborative projects. Through discussions centered on Blue Economy, industrial clusters, skill development, education, and migration, Kerala aims to attract investments of up to 500 million euros.
The conclave’s primary goal is to strengthen economic growth through the sustainable utilization of marine resources, improve livelihoods, create new employment opportunities, and ensure the protection of marine ecosystems. Key focus areas include comprehensive development of coastal regions, upgrading fishing harbors and fish markets to international standards, expanding allied industries and exports, and encouraging the production of value-added products.
The Fisheries Department plans to present large-scale projects to attract substantial investor participation. In collaboration with the AYUSH Department, Kerala will also explore opportunities to establish wellness centers within the state and in European countries, thereby promoting cross-border investment in the wellness sector. Additionally, representatives from European universities and educational institutions will attend the conclave, opening doors for international collaboration in higher education and research.
The Blue Tides Kerala – EU Conclave is envisioned as a transformative step in positioning Kerala as a global hub for sustainable fisheries, coastal development, and the blue economy, while fostering strong international partnerships.
