Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri George Kurian noted that the Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is committed towards bringing positive change in the society through women empowerment; most of the Government schemes are therefore guided by this vision. Proper nutrition for women is an essential requirement for this goal, he further added.
Shri Kurian was visiting a state-level multispeciality health camp held at Community Health Centre (CHC) Venpakal, Thiruvananthapuram yesterday as part of the nationwide health initiative “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The health initiative launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh aims to empower women through enhanced access to healthcare services, with health camps being organized across the country to provide comprehensive and specialist medical care.
Shri Kurian interacted with the beneficiaries and highlighted that success in the health sector is possible only when all the stakeholders work together. He highlighted that the Government has made ‘Nari Shakti’ a key pillar of Viksit Bharat and stated that ‘Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar’ is an initiative to bring about women-led development.
He underlined that the goal is to ensure that no woman is a victim of illness due to lack of resources as only a healthy woman can give rise to a healthy generation. Shri Kurian also extended his appreciation to all medical workers of India for their dedicated service.
The Abhiyaan undertaken in close convergence with Poshan Maah being observed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development will be held from September 17 - October 2, 2025 and culminating on Gandhi Jayanti. As a part of this Abhiyaan, health camps will be organized across the nation where various health services including specialist services will be provided to women.
States and Union Territories will be organizing health camps at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), and other healthcare facilities across the country. Key activities to be organized during the fortnight include: Women’s Health Screening, Maternal and Child Care, Awareness and Behaviour Change, Nikshay Mitra Enrolment Drive and Blood Donation Camps. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has also urged private hospitals & clinics to join during this drive to conduct Health Camps for women during the Abhiyaan. The camp will offer a range of medical services, including specialist consultations, free distribution of medicines, and counselling support for those in need.
