As part of the nationwide initiative “Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, in collaboration with Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, organized a free screening camp for cervical and breast cancer. The camp was open to all women employees.

The mobile screening bus from Kidwai Memorial Hospital was stationed at the OPD block of NIMHANS. Screenings were conducted by women oncologists to ensure comfort and privacy for participants. Women were required to provide their ABHA ID or Aadhaar card, and the quick two-minute process collected basic health information. Screening reports are being shared both as hard copies and through email for convenience.

So far, 74 women employees have been screened under this initiative at NIMHANS.
Excerpts from Participants who expressed appreciation for the initiative:
- “The institute providing the opportunity for screening is good for everyone, because women employees usually don’t go for check-ups due to time constraints. Since it was organized during working hours, it became easy to get tested,” said one participant.
- Another added, “It is very important to conduct such programmes for women. This is a good step by the Government under the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan. If such screenings are held regularly, it will help in early detection and treatment. The test was very satisfactory.”
- A first-time participant shared, “It was my first time getting screened. The test was important for early detection and the staff was very cooperative. Such opportunities should be conducted more often so that more women can benefit.”

The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from NIMHANS community, highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare and timely screening for women’s well-being. NIMHANS reiterated its commitment to supporting the government’s mission of empowering families through women’s health. Workplace screening has benefits of accessibility of screening services.
The “Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” is being observed from 17 September to 2 October 2025, with activities across the country aimed at strengthening women’s health through awareness, screening, and preventive care.
