JIPMER Puducherry and IIT Bombay jointly organises INCUBATE 2025 Grand Finale: India's Med-Tech Innovation Showdown

Top Student Innovators present revolutionary and redefining solutions for current healthcare problems at the Grand Finale of InCubate 2025 – a national level MedTech Hackathon organised jointly by JIPMER Puducherry and IIT Bombay

The Grand Finale of InCubate 2025 – a national level collaborative hackathon between the medical and technical disciplines, was successfully conducted here, at JIPMER Puducherry.

InCubate 2025 piqued enormous interest and participation, with over 1500 students and more than 400 teams from 7 countries and 28 Indian states competing in two rigorous rounds spanning 3 months. A plethora of game-changing ideas synergising medical and technological expertise to solve pertinent issues in healthcare and medicine were evaluated in the preliminary round. The Grand Finale witnessed 15 of the best-performing teams contesting in an enthralling session which was judged by faculty from both institutions.

The event was inaugurated on Sunday by Dr. Vir Singh Negi, Director of JIPMER; Mr. Rizwan Koita, chairperson of NABH and cofounder of the Koita Foundation; Dr. Sunil Narayan, Dean (Research) and Dr. VIkram Kate, Dean (Academic), Dr. Vinod Kumar, (Medical superintendent)
This was shortly followed by addresses from the Guests: Dr. Narayan spoke about the need to foster domestic innovation and the imperative principle of reducing dependence for healthcare requirements. He also brought to notice the role that events like InCubate play in fostering this spirit of innovation.

The Director of JIPMER, in a subsequent address commended the collaborative effort between IIT Bombay and JIPMER Puducherry in making this event a possibility, recollecting his prior experiences in furthering research and innovation.
Mr. Rizwan Koita then graced the stage in an engaging talk about the work that the Koita Foundation and NABH have done in standardizing and improving healthcare in India. He also spoke about the opportunities that await JIPMER in its quest to stand out as a centre of medical excellence in the country.
InCubate 2025 was also the setting for the launch of the JUSRC’s two newest initiatives: a web portal for undergraduate researchers and the first edition of JIPMER’s undergraduate research magazine, Conspectus. The Guests and Dignitaries unveiled these initiatives in 2 / 2 what marks the beginning of a new and exciting phase in the story of innovation and research in JIPMER.
After two rounds of deliberation in which each of the 15 finalist teams were critiqued intensively, the top 3 finishers as determined by the judges were:
At third place was Team Hrid.AI, comprising of Saumanya Dhingra, Ankit Ghosh, Sarthak Mazumdar and Saanvi Puri. Hrid.AI had developed an innovative handheld device for rapid screening of abnormal heart sounds, murmurs, and heart diseases, especially reduced ejection fraction heart failure.
Coming in at second was Team BiliQ, whose members were Sudarsan R V, Dharsini S, Thanu Rithanya S K, and Shree Harini S P. BiliQ presented a Paper strip-based point-of-care prototype for rapid bilirubin profiling in newborns.
And placing first was Team Bridging the Gap, headed by K M Prithwinsiibi, Prathap, Nikhilesh and Gautham. Bridging the Gap brought to the table a sensor-equipped feeding bottle for NICU settings.
Additionally, 20 more participants who received honorable mentions got a chance to present their projects in a poster presentation challenge which ran concurrently.
The event concluded with a valedictory ceremony in which all winners, guests, organizers and volunteers were acknowledged for their effort which has made this edition of InCubate a success
