ICAR-NBAIR, Bengaluru organized the launch of the programme ‘PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’ and ‘Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses” with the gracious presence of Union Minister,  Sushri Shobha Karandlaje

ICAR-NBAIR, Bengaluru organized the launch of the programme ‘PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’ and ‘Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses” by Honourable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi JI in the gracious presence of Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Labour & Employment, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje as Chief Guest. Director (ICAR-NBAIR), Dr. S. N. Sushil, briefed about the programme and also various activities and role of the Institute for the benefit of farmers.

Sushri Shobha Karandlaje addressed the gathering and emphasised the need of self-sufficiency in the production of pulses and oilseeds by the country. She highlighted that the Government of India, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, aims to increase the productivity of pulses to 345 lakh tonnes from the current production level of 245 lakh tonnes. She urged farmers to actively engage in organic and traditional farming methods to maintain soil health and ecological balance. She also encouraged the farmers to visit ICAR–NBAIR regularly, a premiere institute, for pest management through the use of biocontrol agents and bio-rational technologies. She advised farmers to undergo training on advanced biocontrol methods and to stay connected with Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and agricultural research institutes to learn about new crop varieties and modern technologies that can enhance farm productivity and profitability. The Minister also emphasized the importance of conserving beneficial insects that support organic cultivation and urged farmers to adopt natural and chemical-free farming practices to safeguard their health and the environment.

During the event, Biocontrol inputs were distributed to the farmers under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) and Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) programme by Sushri Shobha Karandlaje. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 350 attendees comprising of farmers from Bengaluru rural and Kolar District and also other participants including scientists, staff and students of ICAR-NBAIR.
