The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hubli Branch Office, under Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution organized Manak Mahotsav on 14th October 2025 at Ocean Pearl Resort, Dharwad to commemorate World Standards Day 2025. This year’s global theme, “Shared Vision for a Better World – Spotlight on SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals,” emphasizes the importance of collaboration and partnerships in achieving sustainable development.
The program commenced with the lighting of the lamp by dignitaries, followed by a welcome address by Shri P. N. Murali, Scientist-E/Director and Head, BIS Hubli Branch Office, who highlighted the objectives of the event and the pivotal role of BIS in promoting quality, safety, and standardization across sectors.
Shri Mahesh Tenginakai, Hon’ble Member of Legislative Assembly, Hubli-Dharwad Central Constituency, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, Shri. Tenginakai appreciated BIS for organizing various programs catering to different stakeholders, particularly in the field of education. He stated that under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and New & Renewable Energy Shri Pralhad Joshi, India is moving steadily towards ensuring that quality products reach consumers. He further emphasized that under their leadership, numerous Quality Control Orders (QCOs) have been introduced, reinforcing India’s commitment to quality and consumer safety.
Further, Shri Ashutosh Agrawal, Scientist-B/Assistant Director, BIS Hubli Branch Office, delivered the Joint Message from the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and International Telecommunication Union (ITU), underscoring their “Shared Vision for a Better World.”
The event also featured a presentation on BIS Initiatives by Shri Tushar Sharma, Scientist-D/Joint Director, BIS Hubli Branch Office, followed by theme-based presentations on “SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.” Dr. Deepak K. T., Assistant Professor, IIIT Dharwad, shared insights from the academia perspective, while Mr. Bhupendra Singh, Assistant Vice President (Production In-Charge), West Coast Paper Mills Ltd., spoke from the industry viewpoint, both highlighting the role of partnerships in achieving sustainable growth and innovation.
As part of the celebrations, key contributors and winners of the Quiz and Poster Competitions organized by BIS Hubli Branch Office were felicitated for their outstanding performance and active participation in promoting the culture of standards among students and institutions.
The celebration of World Standards Day 2025, served as a platform to strengthen collaborations among industry, academia, and government, aligning with the vision of a quality-driven and sustainable India.
