RBI Gangtok Organises 2-Day NAMCABs Workshop in Pelling to Boost MSME Lending

Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Gangtok, organized a two-day workshop under the National Mission for Capacity Building of Bankers (NAMCABs) initiative at Pelling on October 13-14, 2025. The workshop brought together key stakeholders from the banking and financial ecosystem to strengthen institutional understanding and support for the MSME sector. A total of 35 bank officials from various bank branches operating in the districts of Gyalshing, Namchi and Soreng attended the workshop.
Inaugurating the event, Shri Thotngam Jamang, Regional Director, RBI, Gangtok, underscored the critical role of MSMEs in India's economic growth and the need to enhance bank credit to the MSME sector. He advised the bankers to finance MSMEs under the UNNATI scheme.
Shri Goda Ravishankar, General Manager, RBI, Gangtok, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the credit gap in MSME lending and urging bankers to treat MSME entrepreneurs with empathy and enhance lending to them.

A wide range of technical sessions followed, with Shri Sohan Singh Rajpurohit, Manager, RBI, covering RBI guidelines on lending to MSMEs, Account Aggregators, technological interventions, digital lending, and the role of Fintechs. Shri Paraj Nagdive, Manager, RBI, took a session on monitoring, management of stress, revival, rehabilitation, and restructuring schemes.
To enhance bankers' soft skills, Miss Aditi Haldar, Manager, RBI, emphasized the role of emotional intelligence in dealing with MSME entrepreneurs, highlighting effective communication strategies.
Various sessions covering the use of credit scoring and rating models, CGTMSE scheme, PM Vishwakarma scheme, NPA recovery mechanism, and features of the UNNATI scheme were taken by Smt. Anula Gurung, GM, District Industries Centre; Shri Prem Chhetri, Dept. of Commerce and Industries; Shri Nirmal Chowdhury, Asst. Director, MSME DFO; Shri Shekhar Suman, Manager, SIDBI; Shri Nitesh Kumar, SBI; Shri Indranil Mukherjee, TransUnion CIBIL; and Shri Santosh Shaw, Grant Thornton Bharat.
