World Standards Day 2025 Celebrated by Bureau of Indian Standards, Bengaluru


Theme: “Shared Vision for a Better World – Spotlight on SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals”

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Bengaluru Branch Office, under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India, celebrated World Standards Day 2025 on 16th October 2025 at the JN Tata Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. World Standards Day is observed globally on 14th October each year to honor the collective efforts of experts worldwide who develop voluntary standards that ensure quality, safety, and efficiency across sectors. The 2025 celebration was held on the global theme “Shared Vision for a Better World – Spotlight on SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals”, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and partnerships in advancing the culture of quality and standardization.

The program commenced with the Welcome Address by Smt. Sushma Rao Mantradi, Director & Head, BIS Bengaluru Branch Office, who welcomed the dignitaries and participants and highlighted the role of BIS in promoting quality consciousness, consumer awareness, and industrial competitiveness through standards. This was followed by the Keynote Address by Dr. Meenakshi Ganesan, Deputy Director General (Southern Region) who outlined BIS’s strategic initiatives for engaging industries, MSMEs, and educational institutions in the national standardization movement.

The event was graced by Hon’ble Sushri. Shobha Karandlaje, Union Minister of State for MSME and Labour & Employment, Government of India, as the Chief Guest, and Hon’ble Dr. C. N. Manjunath, Member of Parliament, Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha Constituency, as the Guest of Honour.

In her inaugural address, Hon’ble Sushri Shobha Karandlaje emphasized the pivotal role of quality and standards in realizing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. She highlighted how strong quality infrastructure is essential for accelerating industrial growth, enhancing the global competitiveness of MSMEs, and safeguarding consumer interests.

Commending the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for its proactive efforts—especially through Standards Clubs and consumer outreach initiatives—she noted that such programs are laying the groundwork for a quality-first culture across the nation. She further stressed the need to develop more robust and sector-specific standards to position India as a global leader in manufacturing, trade, and innovation.

Hon’ble Dr. C. N. Manjunath, in his address, underscored the critical need for adopting and implementing standards across diverse sectors such as healthcare, research, and manufacturing to achieve sustainable development and ensure public health and well-being. He highlighted that standardization not only enhances efficiency and safety, but also plays a vital role in bridging the gap between innovation and practical application, particularly in areas like medical technology, diagnostics etc

The technical sessions featured insightful presentations by eminent speakers. Dr. Dandamudi Usharani, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR–CFTRI Mysuru, discussed the significance of food safety standards and their role in building consumer trust and protecting health. Shri Mahesh Kumar Sharma, Division Manager – HSE, ABB Bengaluru, elaborated on how the implementation of safety, environmental, and occupational health standards enhances organizational performance and global competitiveness.

A Felicitation Ceremony recognized outstanding contributors to standardization efforts, including Standards ChampionsMANAK Veers, All India first  and Regional First licensees, Zero Non-Conformity Licensees, RST’s, Mentors, and Students from active Standards Clubs. The event also featured a Cultural Program by students from Standards Clubs, celebrating India’s spirit of innovation, quality, and teamwork.Industries also partnered with BIS to sponsor sports kits for outstanding Standard Club students in government schools. The initiative promotes quality, teamwork, and awareness of standards among youth.

The event successfully brought together policymakers, industry representatives, academicians, students, and other stakeholders, reaffirming BIS’s continued commitment to promoting quality, safety, and sustainability through partnerships and standardization.
