Shri V. Somanna, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti inspects Yesvantpur Coaching Depot

Shri V. Somanna, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, inspected the Yesvantpur Coaching Depot today. During his visit, the Hon’ble Minister reviewed various maintenance facilities available at the depot and assessed its overall performance. He also reviewed the activities carried out under the ongoing Special Cleanliness Campaign.

The Yesvantpur Coaching Depot is one of the key maintenance units under South Western Railway. The Yesvantpur Coaching Depot maintains 41 rakes and holds 909 coaches. The Depot undertakes primary and secondary maintenance of trains, as well as attention to platform turn-around trains. The depot also carries out Intermediate Overhauling (IOH) of both ICF and LHB coaches, ensuring high standards of safety and comfort for passengers.

Shri V. Somanna also visited the Horse Sculpture created in the depot garden under the Waste to Art initiative of the Swachhata Campaign. The impressive 11-foot-tall sculpture, made entirely from scrap materials such as nuts, bolts, washers, metallic ropes, and springs, was designed and fabricated in-house by the depot staff. The Hon’ble Minister lauded the creativity and dedication of the staff involved in this eco-friendly initiative.

Interacting with the media, Shri V. Somanna highlighted that the Special Campaign was launched across Indian Railways from 2nd October to 31st October, with a focus on ensuring cleanliness in offices, stations, and trains. Awareness programmes were also conducted as part of this campaign to encourage public participation in maintaining hygiene and cleanliness. He appreciated the efforts of the officers and staff of the Yesvantpur Coaching Depot for their commendable work in maintaining coaches to provide safe, clean, and comfortable travel for passengers.

The inspection was attended by Shri Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru; Shri Parikshit Mohanpuria and Shri Praveen Kataraki, Additional Divisional Railway Managers; Shri Dharmendra Seervi, Senior Coaching Depot Officer, Yesvantpur; Shri Anurag Singh, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer & Senior Divisional Environment and Housekeeping Manager; and other senior officials.
