Cyber Security and Telecom Innovation Gets a Push: Academic C-DOT Centre Established at IITGN

IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN) and Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise their partnership and establish an Academic C-DOT Research and Innovation Centre at IITGN.

The MoU was signed by Prof Rajat Moona, Director on behalf of IITGN and Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO on behalf of C-DOT.

The Centre will serve as a hub for fundamental and applied research and strive to excel in the domains of Telecommunications and ICT.

Under this collaboration, IITGN and C-DOT will jointly work on problem statements identified by telecom sector, develop indigenous solutions, and promote innovation-driven projects. The collaboration enables the community of IITGN - faculty, researchers, students; and C-DOT researchers to work together to find practical solutions to problems in the digital, cyber security and telecommunication domains.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IITGN said, "Self-reliance in Digital and Communication technologies along with cyber security are essential for the security, growth and development of our country. The MoU synergises strengths of both institutions and is a significant step towards indigenous capability building, development and innovation that will foster new ideas while leveraging niche and emerging technologies.”

Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO, C-DOT, stated that the establishment of the Academic Centre of Excellence is aimed at creating a dynamic and collaborative environment by combining the strengths and resources of C-DOT and IITGN. He stated that such initiatives play a vital role in advancing next-generation telecom technologies, encouraging the development of intellectual property, and strengthening India’s position as a global leader in technological innovation. He further highlighted that C-DOT envisions a self-reliant India that not only meets its own technological needs but also contributes to global progress.

The collaboration facilitates IITGN and C-DOT to work jointly and contribute to indigenous capability building in line with Government of India’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar’ and ‘Viksit Bharat'.

During the visit, Dr Upadhyay also presided as the Chief Guest at the inaugural session of the 16th edition of ‘Amalthea 2025’- IITGN’s annual Tech fest. He delivered the keynote address and interacted with students. This year the theme of the Tech fest was ‘Orchestrating Origins’. It included Tech Expo - a pre-event of India AI Impact Summit 2026 and highlighted cutting-edge advancements in AI and robotics. The summit also showcased initiatives of the Indian Army, industry, research institutes alongside a host of innovative startups.
