Indian Customs Seizes contraband worth Rs.1.06 Crores at Chennai Anna International Airport

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Indian Customs at Chennai International Airport, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted a major drug smuggling attempt in the early hours of November 14, 2025.

The examination of the checked-in baggage of an Indian male passenger, who had arrived from Bangkok by Thai Airways via Flight No. TG337 at Chennai International Airport led to the recovery of 3.035 kgs of Ganja/ Marijuana concealed in 9 transparent packets inside biscuit and chocolate boxes which is valued at Rs. 1.06 crores in illicit market. The contraband was seized and the passenger was remanded to judicial custody under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Further investigation is under progress.

The Indian Customs at Chennai Airport continues to maintain heightened vigilance against suspect passengers and ingenious methods adopted to effectively prevent smuggling activities. The seizure once again highlights the heightened vigilance of AIU, Indian Customs, Chennai working relentlessly to curb drug trafficking through international airports, in line with the Government of India's Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
