#IFFIWood, 19 November 2025
PIB Maharashtra & Goa, in collaboration with the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), organized a specialized Film Appreciation Course for accredited media delegates in Goa ahead of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on Tuesday. Held just before the festival’s opening, the programme aimed to equip journalists with deeper cinematic understanding to support more informed and insightful festival coverage.

The course was conducted by FTII faculty members Prof. Dr. Indranil Bhattacharya, Professor, Screen Studies & Research, and Prof. Vaibhav Abnave, Associate Professor, Film Direction. Through lectures, film screenings, discussions and analytical exercises, the experts introduced participants to film form, cinematic history, and the aesthetics that shape global filmmaking traditions.

The session was attended by senior dignitaries including Smt. Smita Vats Sharma, Director General, PIB; Shri Prabhat Kumar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting; and Shri Prakash Magdum, Managing Director, NFDC. Addressing the delegates, they highlighted the essential role of an informed and sensitized media in bridging the gap between filmmakers and audiences. They emphasized that a nuanced grasp of film art enables journalists to convey richer and more meaningful narratives.

Certificates were awarded to the participating media delegates by Shri Prabhat Kumar, Shri Prakash Magdum, and Ms. Smita Vats Sharma, marking the successful completion of the programme. With strengthened critical perspectives and renewed appreciation for cinema, the delegates are now well-prepared to engage with the diverse cinematic offerings at 56th International Film Festival of India.
