Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) celebrated its 40^th Foundation Day on 19^th November 2025, with the main event held at its Headquarters located at New Delhi. Prof. Peter Scott, FSRN, President & CEO, Common Wealth of Learning (COL), Vancouver, Cannada, was the chief guest at the main event which was presided by Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU. IGNOU Regional Centre Kohima, joined the occasion to commemorate the 40^thFoundation Day. Dr. Premila Swamy D, Regional Directorexpressed warm greetings to the Guests, Staff and Learners of IGNOU on the celebrative and joyous occasion of IGNOU’s 40^th Foundation Day. In her speech, Dr. Swamy highlighted how since its inception in 1985, IGNOU has evolved into a mega university with a magnitude of academic programmes, vast student network, Industry-academycollaborations and achieving excellence in Research and innovation. She also pointed out that despite different challenges, the Regional Centre strives to provide higher education to the remote locations in the state of Nagaland, aligning with IGNOU’s vision and mission to provide quality education, accessibility and inclusivity. The success of IGNOU in reaching the ‘unreached’ sections of India is a great achievement in higher education of our country. For its outstanding achievements, IGNOU has been accorded A++ grade by NAAC and NIRF ranked #1 in the category of Open Universities.
