JANJATIYA GAURAV VARSH PAKHWADA: PM SHRI KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA SABARMATI EMPHASIZES TRIBAL CULTURE AND MILLETS THROUGH COMMUNITY LUNCH

Posted On: 21 NOV 2025 5:33PM by PIB Ahmedabad

PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Sabarmati organized a unique community lunch program for foundational and preparatory stage students on November 21, 2025, as part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada (Tribal Pride Year Fortnight). The initiative aimed to connect students with India's rich tribal heritage and raise awareness about healthy eating habits, particularly the consumption of millets (coarse grains).

Organization of the Community Lunch

For this special event, students prepared traditional tribal dishes using nutritious millets such as bajra (pearl millet), ragi (finger millet), and jowar (sorghum) at their homes. These dishes were shared within the school premises, fostering a sense of community harmony and the spirit of 'sharing and eating together' among the students. This activity provided an opportunity for students to understand the importance of homemade food and take pride in their cultural roots.

A Confluence of Nutrition and Culture

On this occasion, the school principal stated, "Such community events during the Janjatiya Gaurav Pakhwada not only give our students a chance to learn about the rich culture and traditions of the tribal society but also educate them about the nutritional value of millets." This event was aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes providing practical and experiential learning to students.

Why This Initiative Is Important

The Government of India celebrates November 15, the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas (Tribal Pride Day) to honor the sacrifices, culture, and heritage of tribal communities. This program organized by PM Shri KV Sabarmati advances this spirit, instilling awareness about nutritional security, climate-friendly foods (millets), and respect for cultural heritage in the younger generation.

School Principal Shri Deepak Singh Bhati and Headmaster Shri Indrajeet Bhatwala encouraged the students to incorporate this into their daily lives.
