A grand poster-making competition was organised on Monday at the Faculty of Visual Arts, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), as part of Kashi Tamil Sangamam–4 held in Varanasi. The competition showcased a unique effort to weave together the cultural heritage of Kashi and Tamil Nadu. Based on the theme ‘Unity in Diversity’, the competition saw enthusiastic participation from over 150 students, who brought their ideas to life through vivid colours and creative imaginations.

Students from Kashi Vidyapith, Jeevan Deep Publications and various institutions of BHU participated in the competition. Students created beautiful paintings based on the diverse traditions, customs, costumes, folk culture and lifestyles of Kashi and South India. Amid the music and songs, students captured their imaginations on canvas. The venue transformed into a celebration of art and culture, with each poster depicting unity in diversity of India.

The children's artwork vividly reflected Kashi's ghat culture, the grandeur of its temples, South Indian dance forms, folk art, architecture and spirituality. Some portrayed the mesmerising Ganga Aarti, while others brought Bharatanatyam to life with striking realism. Some posters highlighted the traditions of Kanchipuram, while others depicted the transcendental spirituality of Kashi. These paintings demonstrated that despite cultural differences, India is united.

Nodal Officer Professor Anchal Srivastava, Coordinator, Professor Manish Arora, Professor Gyanendra Kumar Kanaujia and Assistant Professor Krishna Singh played key roles in ensuring the programme’s success. Held under the guidance of the Department of Applied Arts, Faculty of Visual Arts, BHU, the competition took place in a well-organised and creatively enriching environment. While encouraging the participants, the organisers highlighted that art is not only a powerful means of expression but also a bridge that connects diverse cultures.

The students participating in the competition were extremely excited. Many expressed that this platform gives them the opportunity to understand and present their culture from a new perspective. During the event, it was announced that the students who created the best posters would be honoured on the main stage of Tamil Sangamam-4. This further increased the students' enthusiasm for the competition.
