The Maternity Services at the Women and Child Health (WCH) Block, JIPMER, have been awarded the prestigious Platinum Certification under the Government of India’s LaQshya (Labour Room Quality Improvement Initiative) Programme, a national initiative aimed at improving the quality of care in labour rooms and maternity operation theatres across the country.

This certification, granted by the National Health Mission (NHM), follows a highly rigorous two-level assessment—first by a state evaluation team and subsequently by a national team of experts under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS). JIPMER secured an outstanding 99.5% score for the Labour Ward and 98.5% for the Maternity Operation Theatres, reflecting excellence in all critical domains of maternity care.

This recognition comes as a mark of exceptional quality for one of the busiest maternity units in the region. JIPMER handles nearly 800–900 childbirths every month, serving as a major referral centre for high-risk pregnancies with dedicated Obstetric ICU and High Dependency Units (HDU).

The LaQshya Platinum certification ensures:

At a felicitation ceremony held today, Professor Saka Vinod Kumar, Medical Superintendent, JIPMER, honoured the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and the Nursing team of the WCH Block for their exceptional work.

Dr. Anandalakshmi, Deputy Director (Family Welfare), Department of Health and Family Welfare Services and Chief Guest of the function, appreciated the dedication of the entire team and expressed her happiness over the achievement.

Professor Vir Singh Negi, Director, JIPMER, congratulated the heads of maternity services and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to uncompromising quality of care. He highlighted that these recognitions like LaQshya Platinum certification strengthen JIPMER’s ongoing efforts toward NABH accreditation of all hospital services.
