The Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Thiru K. Djeacoumar, launched the Smart Farmer Identification Cards (SFIC) at the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) meeting held on 27.11.2025. The initiative, part of the AgriStack program, aims to digitize farmers’ records and streamline access to government schemes and banking services.

  

     The new QR code-enabled Smart Farmer ID Card replaces traditional booklet-style identity cards and provides farmers with a single digital identity for availing crop loans, subsidies, and other services. Supported by NABARD under its Farm Sector Promotion Fund with a grant of ₹9.50 lakh, the card is expected to enhance transparency, reduce delays, and pave the way for paperless agricultural financing.

     Addressing the gathering, the Minister urged banks to utilize CSR funds to support farmers with minor agricultural tools and implements. Further he informed that, the Smart Farmer ID Card provides farmers with a single digital identity, authorized by the Government as a valid alternative to traditional land documents for crop loans and subsidies. It speeds up credit delivery and reduces paperwork. It ensures real-time verification, transparency, and prevents duplication. He added that the Department is proud to be the only department in the country to have received the ISO Anti-Bribery Management System Certification. This initiative reinforces integrity and enables future services like digital KCC, crop insurance, and online benefits through a secure portal.

     The event was attended by Finance Secretary Thiru Krishna Mohan Uppu, Agriculture Secretary Thiru Yasin Mohammed Choudhary, Indian Bank Executive Director Shiv Bajrang Singh; NABARD General Manager Dr. P S Harikrishnaraj, RBI General Manager Thiru Rajkumar; senior officials from State Government, Banks and farmers.
