Acting on specific intelligence regarding an attempt to smuggle contraband, officers of Trichy Customs successfully intercepted a male passenger arriving at Trichy International Airport from Bangkok on Flight TR-566 on November 25, 2025. The intelligence indicated that the passenger would attempt to conceal the contraband in his check-in bags. During the thorough examination of his two check-in bags, officers recovered a significant consignment of exotic wildlife animals and birds. The seized species included 1 Albino Racoon, 6 Pygmy Marmosets, 6 White Necked Mynas, and 1 Sulawesi Myna, along with 4 Yellow Faced Mynas (which were found dead). Consequently, a case was booked under the provisions of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, and the accused person was arrested. The live wildlife species were safely recovered and subsequently repatriated. Further investigation into the matter is currently in progress.
