The Governor of Assam Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, today released Good News Assam, a special publication by Doordarshan News Assam. The book release ceremony was held at Lok Bhawan, Guwahati, in the presence of officials, inspiring personalities of Assam and other distinguished guests. The book presents 55 impactful stories capturing inspiring narratives from across Assam and offers a meaningful snapshot of the state’s resilience, creativity and collective progress.

In his address, the Governor praised the vision behind Good News Assam, noting that the initiative beautifully highlights stories of human spirit, innovation, social service and community strength from across the state. He said that such constructive and inspirational narratives encourage society to recognise its everyday heroes and reinforce a shared sense of progress. The Governor congratulated the DD News Assam team for travelling across districts, identifying inspiring achievers, and presenting their work with sincerity and depth. He further appreciated the compilation of these stories into a book, calling it “a valuable documentation of Assam’s positive transformation.” The Governor also felicitated seven inspiring personalities whose stories and service was featured in the book.

Ms. Priya Kumar, IIS, Director General, DD News spoke about the mandate of DD News as India’s Public Service Broadcaster, emphasising its commitment to credibility, development-oriented journalism and citizen-focused storytelling. She noted that Good News Assam reflects the true spirit of public service broadcasting by bringing forward grassroots narratives of hope, empowerment and collective progress.

Joint Director and Head of DD News Assam, Shri Ankur Lahoty, IIS, shared insights on how the programme has evolved into a state-wide platform for positive storytelling, driven by strong editorial coordination, dedicated field reporting and growing digital engagement.

The event witnessed the presence of senior officers from the Indian Army, senior civil administration officials, leading policy experts, doctors, educationists and other distinguished guests. Several individuals whose stories are featured in the book were also present.

Stringers and district reporters from across Assam who play a vital role in identifying, filming and reporting inspiring stories from remote communities were also part of the ceremony.

About the programme

Good News Assam is a weekly half-hour programme of DD News Assam that showcases stories of service, innovation, entrepreneurship, community leadership and local solutions. Over more than 50 episodes, the programme has documented thousands of uplifting stories that reflect both development initiatives and citizen-led change.
