The Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, conferred the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar – Vigyan Shri for the year 2025 on Dr. S. Venkata Mohan, Director, CSIR–National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI), Nagpur, at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. 

Dr. S. Venkata Mohan was honoured in the field of Environmental Science. This eminent national recognition is a richly deserved tribute to his outstanding contributions to science and technology, particularly in environmental science and engineering. 

The prestigious award, comprising a medal and a citation, stands as a testament to Dr. Mohan’s exceptional research, unwavering commitment, and passion for advancing sustainable environmental technologies that continue to inspire the scientific community.

Dr. Mohan’s research addresses critical environmental challenges through sustainability-driven bioengineering and circular bioeconomy approaches. His pioneering work on biorefineries, low-carbon energy, and waste-to-wealth technologies has led to scalable innovations in wastewater treatment and CO₂ bio-sequestration. With over 450 publications, 16 patents, and the successful supervision of 42 Ph.D. scholars, his globally recognised contributions have significantly advanced the field of environmental biotechnology.

Dr. Mohan is also a recipient of several prestigious honours, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the INAE–SERB Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship, and the DBT–Tata Innovation Fellowship. His pioneering work continues to strengthen India’s leadership in sustainable environmental research.
